Senator Nelson’s email continued:

We need to see what happens with the relief well expected to be done in August. And even then, our work will only have begun.

That’s why I want to hear from you now. I’d like to know what you think the country’s priorities should be regarding the Deepwater Horizon spill. Please take a minute and fill out the survey below.

I’ll share the results with you in a couple of weeks and use your feedback going forward. Just indicate your top three among the following priorities

Keep oil rigs away from states like Florida that rely on tourism, fishing and beach-front economies.

Raise the legal cap on damages companies would owe from an oil spill from $75 million to at least $10 billion.

Find out whether there’s a lot of oil from the Gulf spill beneath the surface, and what the long-term threat might be.

Provide tax breaks for small businesses hurt by the spill and for employers who hire workers displaced by it.

Develop comprehensive energy legislation to decrease our reliance on fossil fuels, like foreign oil.

Conduct a criminal investigation and put those most responsible for the spill behind bars.

think about this...

"We must build a peace in South Florida - a peace between the people and their place, between the natural environment and man-made settlement, between the works of man and the life of mankind itself. "
~ Florida Gov. Reubin Askew ~
