Dear PURRE Members:
We've been periodically sending you "reports from the front" of the oil spill as it reached Florida's Panhandle, written by Linda Young of the Clean Water Network. The CWN is now eligible for a $250,000 grant for a project to:
The CWN project fills gaps in current efforts to reduce the impact of the oil disaster on local residents. Through a media campaign, grassroots organizing and a dedicated website for the project, citizens will access and be able to share information that will help each other cope with the stresses created by this disaster. Experts will test the air and water when needed and not done by government/others; a clearinghouse of reliable information will be compiled daily and made available by web, phone and public meetings; three community meetings will be held weekly for a year in varied locations to share information and provide a supportive environment for discussing issues related to the oil disaster; and a toll-free hotline will operate six days a week to assist people in finding help and information.
But to win this grant, THE CWN NEEDS YOUR VOTES. PLEASE HELP. Here is their message:
We have until August 30 to get as many votes as we can, and we need your help. Follow the link below to read about how our project would help the people of Florida affected by BP’s oil disaster. Once there, you can log in and vote. You will be required to register, but it doesn’t take more than a minute and they’ll only contact you in the future if you ask them to, and after that you’ll be able to vote for our proposal (and up to nine others) once every day for the rest of the month.
We hope that you’ll help us out by voting as often as you possibly can, and encouraging your friends, family, and everyone who shares your love for the Gulf of Mexico to do the same! Let’s spread the word far and wide by including this link in emails, on websites, blog posts, and Facebook, or just though word of mouth.
